The name 'Nanjil Nadu' comes from the words "Nanjil" which means 'cool and pleasant' and "Nadu" which means 'land'. It was once a princely state, ruled by the Nanjil Nadu Kings who were the descendents of the Pandya Kings.

Nanjil Nadu is a unique and culturally rich region, known for its distinctive food, language, and customs. The cuisine of Nanjil Nadu is a blend of traditional Tamil Nadu and Kerala dishes, with a focus on seafood and vegetarian food. The people of Nanjil Nadu speak a unique dialect of Tamil called "Nanjil Tamil" which is known for its distinct accent and vocabulary.
